Levels of Certification

 

Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT)

  • Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

    • Completion of a comprehensive therapist training in a Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSLE) program

  • Comprehensive therapist training shall be defined as a course under the supervision of a Qualified Instructor (QI) that includes:

    • a minimum of 200 instructional hours, minimum of 700 clinical or teaching hours, minimum of 10 demonstrations, clinical or teaching documentation, and proof of the therapist’s progress and competency

      OR

    • a minimum of 200 instructional hours, minimum of 500 clinical or teaching hours, minimum of 15 demonstrations, clinical or teaching documentation, and proof of the therapist’s progress and competency

      OR

    • a minimum of 200 instructional hours, minimum of 350 clinical or teaching hours, minimum of 20 demonstrations, clinical or teaching documentation, and proof of the therapist’s progress and competency

  • Acceptable performance on a comprehensive therapy examination administered by ALTA

  • Completion of 10 CEU’s per year (1 CEU = 1 hour at an approved ALTA event)


Qualified Instructor (QI)

  • Certificate of completion for coursework and clinical teaching hours from an ALTA approved accredited training course

  • Documentation of completion of a graduate degree from a regionally accredited public or private institution of higher education

  • Documentation of 1400 language therapy teaching hours and therapy situations beyond CALT certification including at least 3 therapy situations which completed the curriculum

  • Completion of 10 CEU’s per year (1 CEU = 1 hour at an approved ALTA event)


Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP)

  • Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

    • Completion of a comprehensive therapist training in a Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSLE) program

  • Comprehensive therapist training shall be defined as a course under the supervision of an Instructor of Certified Academic Language Practitioners (ICALP) that includes:

    • a minimum of 45 instructional hours, minimum of 60 clinical or teaching hours, minimum of 5 demonstrations, clinical or teaching documentation, and proof of the therapist’s progress and competency

  • Acceptable performance on a comprehensive therapy examination administered by ALTA

  • Completion of 10 CEU’s per year (1 CEU = 1 hour at an approved ALTA event)


Instructor of Certified Academic Language Practitioner (ICALP)

  • Certificate of completion for coursework and clinical teaching hours from an ALTA approved accredited training course

  • Documentation of completion of bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited public or private institution of higher education

  • 600 academic language teaching hours beyond CALP certification


Trainee Affiliate

  • This level of membership is open to individuals who are currently attending an IMSLEC accredited training course and who have met the following requirements:

    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

    • Active, non-conditional participation in a comprehensive Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSLE) practitioner or therapist level training as verified by the director of the training center

    • Acceptance and signature on application form indicating compliance with ALTA ethics and agreeing to represent themselves solely as trainee affiliates until successfully fulfilling the requirements and applying for CALP/CALT membership
